Friday, June 27 -- Bassist Mark Helias brings his “Projectile” quartet, featuring trombonist Ray Anderson, saxophonist Ellery Eskelin and drummer Tyshawn Sorey, to Cornelia Street Café for two free-associative sets; 29 Cornelia Street, 9 & 10:30PM, $10.

Saturday, June 28 -- Legendary Japanese pianist Masabumi Kikuchi makes a rare New York appearance as a leader at the The Stone with the explosively unpredictable Danish drummer Kreston Osgood, bassist Thomas Morgan and saxist Michael Attias; Ave C at 2nd Street 10PM $10.

Sunday, June 29 -- Singer Lyle Lovett’s plaintive voice and understated persona perfectly complement his bittersweet style as a songwriter. The unassuming Texan will perform at The Beacon Theater 2124 Broadway, at 74th Street 8PM $59.50 to $79.50.

Monday, June 30 -- The Eternal Buzz Brass band has joined the ranks of Slavic Soul Party and Veveritse as a key player in the resurgence of swaggering, multi-culti brass bands based in Brooklyn. The band will perform music from their latest release, Evolution, at Zebulon 258 Wythe Ave. Brooklyn, L train to Bedford 10PM Free.

Tuesday, July 1 -- Pianist Uri Caine begins a six-night stint at the Village Vanguard with bassist Drew Gress and the sly, swinging drummer Ben Perowsky; 178 7th Ave South, 9 & 11PM $30.

Wednesday, July 2 -- WFMU’s Bethany Ryker will curate Wednesday nights at Barbes in July and August starting with upstart pianist Jason Domnarski’s atmospheric trio, featuring bassist Aaron Nevezie and drummer Dave Mason; 8 & 10PM, 376 Ninth St. Brooklyn, F train to 7th Ave $10 suggested donation.

Thursday, July 3 -- A night of trio performances at Douglass Street Music Collective starts with drummer and collective member Rob Garcia’s band, featuring bassist Dave Ambrosio and guitarist Nir Felder and concludes with pianist Barney McAll with bassist Matt Pavolka and drummer George Schuller; 8 & 9:15 PM 295 Douglass Street, Brooklyn.

Friday, June 13 -- The New Languages Festival continues with two exceptional trios led by equally exceptional saxophonists: Jackson Moore and Tony Malaby. Opening for them is the composer, blogger Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society, a big band that draws equally from Ellington and Phillip Glass, at The Living Theater, 21 Clinton St. below Houston. 8PM $10.

Saturday, June 14 -- Drummer Tom Rainey is know primarily as a kinetic sideman with the likes of Tony Malaby and Tim Berne, but he’ll be leading his own lithe trio of German saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock and bassist Mark Helias tonight at Cornelia Street Café, 29 Cornelia Street. 9 & 10:30PM, $10.

Sunday, June 15 -- The big guns come out for the final night of the 2008 Vision Festival, starting with trumpeter Lewis Barnes’ Hampton Roads and continuing with bands led by Roy Nathanson, Abdoulaye Alhassane and a large ensemble led by William Parker at The Clemente Solo Velez Cultural Center, 107 Suffolk St. 7PM, $35.

Monday, June 16 -- British free-jazz saxophonist Paul Dunmall makes an appearance in NY with Tony Malaby, a saxophonist with an equally husky tone and penchant for unfettered melodicism, the dynamic bassist Mark Helias and drummer Kevin Norton at the Living Theater, 21 Clinton St. below Houston. $10PM, $10.

Tuesday, June 17 -- Few saxophonists play with the fluidity and conviction of Mark Turner and he’s found kindred spirits in bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Jeff Ballard, members of his trio, Fly. The group will perform their unique brand of free-associative post-bop at The Jazz Gallery, 290 Hudson St. at 9 & 10:30PM, $15.

Wednesday, June 18 -- Tenor and soprano saxophonist Michael Blake has toured extensively and released two striking albums with his band Blake Tartare, but the group, Blake backed by a trio of young, Danish upstarts, has rarely performed in the city. Catch them tonight at the Jazz Standard 116 E. 27th St. between Park and Lexington, 7:30 & 9:30 PM, $20.

Thursday, June 19 -- Back-to-back sets of genre-defying music at The Stone tonight, at 8 a trio performance by drummer Gerald Cleaver, bassist William Parker and pianist Craig Taborn and at 10, Marty Ehrlich’s For Altos, featuring saxophonists, Michael Attias, Andy Laster and Ned Rothenberg.

Friday, June 6 -- Chicago-based cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm joins experimental trumpeter Nate Wooley for a set of improvised music, followed by a quintet led by the dynamic saxophonist Michael Blake featuring pianist Jesse Stacken, guitarist Ryan Blotnick, bassist Michael Bates and drummer Russell Lacy at The Stone, Northwest corner of Ave C at 2nd St. 8 and 10PM, $10.

Saturday, June 7 -- Percussionist, composer Adam Rudolph performs with flutist Michel Gentile and percussionist Brahim Fribgane before taking the helm of his free-minded Go: Organic Orchestra. Also on the bill is multireedist Matt Darriau’s Yo Lateef, a quintet that explores the fertile crossroads of jazz and world music in the spirit of the great Yusef Lateef at Belarussian Church, 401 Atlantic Ave at Bond St. in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn. Subway: 4 to Nevins St. 7PM $15.

Sunday, June 8 -- Accordionist Ted Reichman will perform an original extended work and music from pianist composer Anthony Coleman in an unaccompanied set, followed by a solo set by like-minded pianist Uri Caine at The Stone. Northwest corner of Ave C and 2nd St. 8 and 10PM $10.

Monday, June 9 -- In less than a month of operation, Brooklyn’s Douglass Street Music Collective has become one of the most important spaces for creative new music in the city. As part of the KMB Music Festival, multi-instrumentalist Sabir Mateen will join drummer William Hooker and guitarist Joe Morris will perform solo in addition to a wide array of Brooklyn-based talent on the bill at 295 Douglass St. btwn 3rd and 4th aves Brooklyn 8PM. $15.

Tuesday, June 10 -- Opening night for the Vision Festival, featuring Hamid Drake, Patricia Nicholson, William Parker, cornetist Taylor Ho Bynum’s sextet, Dave Douglas’ Magic Circle Keys, a duo performance by bassist Mark Dresser and pianist Denman Maroney and many more at the Clemente Solo Velez Cultural Center on the Lower East Side 107 Suffolk St. 7PM $35.

Wednesday, June 11 -- The fourth installment of This is Our Music at Galapagos Artspace in Williamsburg Brooklyn features some of the finest talent from the downtown diaspora, including a trio of tenorist Michael Blake, bassist Ben Allison and drummer Michael Sarin, the avant groove ensemble Knucklebean and a duo performance by percussionist Bobby Previte and saxophonist Briggan Krauss at 70 N 6th St. Brooklyn. 8PM $10.

Thursday, June 12 -- The fourth annual New Languages Festival kicks off with performances by Ty Cumbie, Daniel Carter, Adam Laine, Lukas Ligeti, guitarist Miles Okazaki’s sextet, and drummer Tyshawn Sorey’s Wu-Wei at the Living Theater 19 Clinton St. 8PM $10.
